MediaTech Institute History

Successful owner of Ruff Cedar Studios, Russell Whitaker re-located to Dallas and created Dallas Sound Lab. DSL studios became home to Grammy Award winning artist such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Destiny’s Child, Pantera, Kirk Franklin and many others. Paramount, Disney, NFL Films, NBC, CBS, ABC, Universal Studios and other major production companies were a part of DSL’s client list.

Russell recognized digital technology made music much more accessible to musicians. Russell began offering Engineering workshops in the Dallas Sound Lab. The successful workshops led to offering more classes on Producing & Songwriting, Mixing, Mastering, & Post Production Audio, Live Sound Reinforcement and the Music Business itself. January 4th, 1999, MediaTech Institute had its first class licensed by the Texas Workforce Commission and was housing a post-secondary school.

Several years later, Russell opened a MediaTech campus in Houston, Texas choosing Sunrise Sound recording studios, a large facility that had been home to many platinum selling artists such as
Morrisey and Blah; another a top-notch studio.

MediaTech received Institutional Accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

MediaTech Institute received approval from the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the Title IV funding program. Financial Aid allows qualified students to have access to government
issued Pell Grants for education tuition (which do not have to be repaid), and Stafford loans, which are federally backed student loans.

MediaTech Dallas launched The Digital Film & Video Arts program.

The Dallas Campus purchased Maximedia Studios relocating to the 37,000 square foot building. The new facility provided students with an excellent campus to learn recording, filmmaking and all
multimedia skill sets.

MediaTech introduced new course offerings in digital content creation and delivery. The Mobile Application Development program and the Animation & Visual Effects Program were launched.
