6 Important Things About Singing

by Rae Nyx, Vocal Coach There are many different philosophies on what is most important when it comes to singing. I feel the most important is Passion. It’s pulling the heartstrings of the person listening to the song. I have gotten into sooo many arguments with other vocal coaches about this very thing. Here are the six main aspects to think about or to bring up to your own vocal coach: 1.  Breathing – This is going to sound weird, but almost everyone breathes wrong in the music industry. The Internet Generation – Are we apathetic?

Most people refer to us as “Generation Y,” but we go by many names: the “Internet Generation,” the “Millennium Generation,” or even the “Echo Generation.” Regardless of the name, there is something very distinctive about the “Y” generation–something that separates them from the narcissism of Generation X, the drug fueled activism of the Baby Boomers, and the rampant patriotism of the Greatest Generation. MySpace Still Rules Google Search Results for Music Acts

Facebook and Twitter are both more popular than MySpace, but based on my informal study, MySpace still rules when it comes to Google search results for music acts. Last.fm is also favored by Google searches. I was curious to see the Google rank for the MySpace pages of well-known artists and conducted a quick search experiment last week. It wasn’t exhaustive — I just started with some of the bigger “indie rock” names of the past decade and threw in a handful of classic rock acts as well. Also, for band names of more than one word, I didn’t put Read more

Twitter for Audio Engineers and Knob Twiddlers

(Cross-posted at Earthbirdmusic.com) In  March of 2006, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams launched a little short messaging site centered around one simple question: “What are you doing?” Nearly three years later, more than 2.3 million users log in and publish their answers to the world. Some people have registered for twitter and quickly got lost in the point, likely since they never spent time following the right people. Others, including myself, use the service fanatically and enjoy learning from a humble list of friends and followers. A quick troll around the intertubes will yield a plethora of users Read more
