MediaTech Houston Graduate Spotlight – Johnnie Moutra

Johnnie Moutra just recently graduated from MediaTech Houston, and has been working with local artist Marium Echo on her album, Letters & Numbers, as a producer. I recently sat down with Johnny to speak with him about the album and his time at MediaTech. Roy: First off, what made you want to go into audio engineering? Johnnie: It started off just as poetry, which then developed into songwriting. After some urging from a friend, I came across MediaTech as I looked up different schools and decided to check it out. Upon coming in, I instantly knew that this was for Read more

“So my child wants to be in the music biz”

When parents hear that their children want to break into the music industry, whether as a musician or on the business side of things, reactions can be decidedly mixed. Some parents go all out trying to help their children reach the stars, while others take the “dream on, kid” approach and others still are semi-supportive but unsure of what it all means. Which group has the right idea? Maybe all of them. After all, it’s natural for parents to worry about their child’s ability to make a living in a very competitive industry – a dose of realism is always Read more

BuzzFest XXVII At The Woodlands

BuzzFest XXVII Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion October 22, 2011 When we first arrived on site to set up the MediaTech booth Saturday morning at the Woodland Pavilion, it was like a ghost town. It was almost too quiet, but we knew that wouldn’t last long. I like to call it “the calm before the storm”. A local band and a friend of MediaTech, The Last Place You Look, quickly got concert goers out of their seats. The crowd went crazy over TLPYL‘s cover of the popular “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. The Importance of a Recording Timeline

We’ve all been there. The drummer overslept, the guitarist is late, and the bass player has to leave early to hang out with his girlfriend. None of us enjoy being in this kind of a situation, and that is why having a planned out recording schedule can help improve session flow and save you time (and money).
